​Digital Storytelling

Using Book Creator for the digital storytelling project opened my eyes and taught me how to improve my technical skill and  collaboration and teamwork.

My partner and I began by discussing and selecting the final story we wanted to continue for this project. We established clear roles and responsibilities for each task, ensuring that our individual strengths and talents were leveraged effectively. We also set deadlines together and regularly gave each other feedback, which kept us on track and motivated, fostered a supportive environment. We even shared a support account in achieving a common goal because we weren’t using commercial versions of Al tools.

Engaging in the digital storytelling project using Book Creator has been a profound learning experience. One of the most significant lessons was the importance of leveraging individual strengths. For instance, I had a knack for narrative development, content while my partner excelled in design pictures, characters and layouts. Secondly, I learned was the necessity of open communication regarding responsibilities and expectations. It minimizes misunderstandings and ensures that both of us are aware of ourshelves contributions. Furthermore, I found immense value in sharing ideas and providing feedback to one another. For example, when we sharing storyboard, story mountain and draft book creation, we create a paper sheet for discussing our thoughts and giving suggestions or solutions, we were able to refine our work and enhance our storytelling.

However, working as a pair was not without its challenges. One significant issue we faced was misunderstanding. In multicultural pair-work, we recognized that different communication styles and cultural norms could significantly influence how conflicts over tasks were perceived and addressed, language barriers as well. But we tackled these issues by improving our communication and making an effort to build a friendly relationship, active listening, clear messaging, and conflict resolution significantly improved our relationships and team performance.

In my creative process, I used tools like ChatGPT, Canva, and Book Creator, and honestly, they made things a lot easier and more fun. ChatGPT helped me quickly generate and organize ideas for my story, while Canva made it easy to design appealing images and layouts. Book Creator was great for bringing everything together in one place, helping me combine text, visuals, and sound smoothly. One thing I’m especially proud of is the sound part. I didn’t have much experience with it before, but because friends and my professor shared several tools with me, I was able to jump right in and make it work. That made me feel pretty good about trying something new. Although I had some trouble with image creation due to account limits, borrowing accounts from friends helped me finish.

The most meaningful part of the project was presenting our story. It allowed me to reflect on the journey we undertook, from brainstorming ideas to finalizing the design, and it was incredibly rewarding to see our efforts come in front of an audience. I also enjoyed sharing my work and learning from other groups that inspired me, providing new ideas and perspectives.

This project has significantly influenced my thinking as a future language teacher by highlighting the power of digital storytelling as a pedagogical tool. This project has inspired me to embrace innovative teaching methods. I can create a more interactive and engaging learning environment.
